Member Spotlight: Ellen Kirschman

author Ellen Kirschman and her book Call Me Carmela

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? Stories are how we connect with other people and with ourselves. Telling stories breeds empathy and understanding.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? I have the opposite of writer’s block—too many ideas, too little time. Funny, there is no name for this condition.

What is your favorite time to write? Any time before the cocktail hour.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? This is a long game, longer than you anticipate. Hang in there, don’t give up. Connect to other writers and read everything you can.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? The challenge of speaking out against forces that want to stifle creativity, honesty, and suppress human rights.

Ellen Kirschman’s Call Me Carmela is out now with Open Road Media Mystery & Thriller.
