Member Spotlight: Missy Jane

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? Writing is my escape from the real world. It’s an important outlet for my imagination. I think it’s a very important medium for both readers and writers because of the conversations that can be sparked by various books and articles.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? When I hit a block in my novel writing, I write a poem or a blog post. It seems to get the creative juices flowing again just by putting any words down on paper.

What is your favorite time to write? I prefer to write in the early morning while my household, and especially my cats, are still asleep.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? The most impactful thing an author said to me when I was starting out was: you have permission to write. You have permission to call yourself a writer.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? It’s exciting to meet new writers, especially young ones who love the written word as much as I do.
