Writing is art, and like all forms of art- music, painting, photography, film- the written word has the ability to transform life from the profane to the sacred, both for the writer and for the reader. What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Long soaks in a hot bath, long walks by the river, listening to evocative music, re-reading the works of authors and poets I love. What is your favorite time to write? Mornings during the school week, and late evenings, when I’m on the edge of tired and allow more thoughts flow through to my keyboard without critique. What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? “Allow your words to take up space.” What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? The ability to share with a universal audience via the internet, though not without its frustrations, makes finding a unique audience easier. Cameron Alam’s Anangokaa is out now with Blackwater Press.
