Member Spotlight: Karen Lynne Klink

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? Writing was and is a way for me to gain control over my world, particularly as I am a child abuse survivor. Both writing and reading is not only education and exploration, but an emotional expression and can be used by children as an escape and/or adventure into a different world.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Take a walk, read a good book of similar genre, research, meditate.

What is your favorite time to write? Early in the morning.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Years ago I read “Write From Where You Dream” by Robert Olen Butler. I have read it twice since and often refer to it. Also refer to “Spunk and Bite” by Arthur Plotnik.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? How easy it is to meet other authors online and, despite how often I gripe about it, having to learn so many new programs in order to market my book. At seventy-nine, all this keeps my mind active.
