Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? I believe everyone has a story to tell and in sharing those stories, hopefully, we entertain, educate, and inspire others. Writing has helped me understand not only my own feelings but also the viewpoints of those near and far. Words connect and unite us as individuals and communities.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Taking walks always helps clear some of those mental road blocks. I also find talking through plot points and character arcs with my very patient husband or wise writer friends helps get me unstuck. And, if those fail, taking a shower is another favorite remedy.

What is your favorite time to write? I’m grateful for any time to write. I used to be very precious about it and think I needed silence and a two-hour window. Now, three children, later, I will take whatever moments I can steal. If I had to pick a time when my mind is sharpest and I’m the least distracted, I’d say the early mornings with a cup of coffee are my favorite.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Don’t look at what you haven’t achieved, focus on how far you’ve come. When we see so many announcements celebrating authors’ book deals, it’s difficult to not compare where you are in your career. But if you think back to where you were a decade or two ago, you can appreciate all you’ve accomplished and, hopefully, get excited about all that’s ahead of you.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? I love that we have the ability to easily connect with writers and readers anywhere in the world.
