Writing is important to me because it allows me to pen thoughts and express emotions that could not be conveyed otherwise through spoken words alone. Writing is an important medium for the world because it allows thoughts to be brought to fruition, and permits readers to take the time to not only read a particular text, for comprehension, but digest what is trying to be relayed in the writing itself–at their own pace. This concept is especially important for young learners and readers. What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? I have found recently what cures my writer’s block is to take a few days and try not to think about the project. When I come back to the manuscript, I have fresh eyes, and a fresh perspective–being able to see the book through to completion. What is your favorite time to write? I have to say that my favorite time to write is late at night. I have tried to change that about myself, but I always go back to between 1 am and 3 am, especially if I have a book coming out and I am trying to finish the manuscript Plus the excitement of getting caught up in the story line keeps me wanting to write and write–to no end! What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? The most recent, best piece of advice I would impart to other writers is a quote I found while substitute teaching in a fourth-grade classroom: “You always pass failure on your way to success!” -Mickey Rooney Mr. Rooney’s quote inspired a quote of my own: “You may not have a New York Times® Best Seller…yet, but keep trying–knowing that failure is a part of the process!” -Nathan Foy What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? What excites me about being a writer in today’s age is that I get to inspire young writers to pursue their dreams, and I get to inspire older writers to never give up!
