Writing for young children means the world to me—and, I hope, makes a difference in the world. I love being part of quality time between children and their significant adults, giving them a giggle together or starting an illuminating conversation. What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? The way I look at it, there are two modes for writers–output and input. On input, it’s vital to get out into the world, go different places, and do different things. Be open to new experiences and try different perspectives. All of this helps fuel output when the time comes. What is your favorite time to write? When I’m gripped by inspiration! Sometimes, I write rhyme in my head while walking the beach. Sometimes, words come to me in the middle of the night–I keep a flashlight pen on my nightstand, just in case. Sometimes, the perfect solution to a writing problem comes to me in the shower. It’s great when my brain kicks into “the zone” when I’m at my computer. What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Persistence is the name of the game! What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? I love the inclusivity of the illustrations that make up the other half of my picture book texts, welcoming in all comers.
