Creatives Rebuild New York, a new $125 million initiative backed by major foundations, is accepting applications from 2,400 New York artists for no-strings-attached $1,000 monthly stipends that provide artists time and resources for creative work for up 18 months. The initiative is also accepting applications for a second program aiming to fill 300 paid creative jobs with community-based organizations or municipalities at a salary of $65,000 per year.Similar initiatives to help jump-start creative economies and provide employment to out of work artists are underway in San Francisco, St. Paul, and other cities.
