Member Spotlight: Kathleen Long Bostrom

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? I write children’s picture books for the most part, and strongly believe that children need books to hold in their hands, to read with adults, to own, if possible, and to see themselves portrayed as capable, creative, and worthwhile people.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Go for a walk on the beach and let my mind clear, or simply sit down at my desk and start writing!

What is your favorite time to write? Morning, but not too early!

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Write what you love.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? I write for children to bring hope in a world that seems dark and antagonistic. I write to give children a voice in that world.
