Gaines Award for Literary Excellence serves to recognize rising African-American fiction writers of excellence at a national level. Any full length work of fiction published (or to be published) in 2016 by an emerging African American author, not yet widely recognized for their work, is eligible. Galleys for upcoming 2016 works are also acceptable. Self-published works are not eligible for this prize. The winner will receive $10,000.
