It provides an essential way for everyone to communicate with everyone else when other avenues and approaches won’t work. The advent of social media and other forms of communication have made writing by individuals even more important than ever because of their ability to create an instantaneous response to world events. What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Listening to music; stopping when stuck at a difficult point and coming back to it after a period of deliberation; considering the development and growth of current events as fuel for story ideas. What is your favorite time to write? When I can be left alone long enough to do it. What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? It’s best to have an informed approach behind what you write, rather than an ignorant one. Whatever you write, you want to show your readers that you have taken the time to get the facts correct, develop engaging characters, and have a believable story. What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? That I have many more potential opportunities to be published and read than were possible in the past, and, consequently, more potential ways of making a living from my writing. I hope that will soon be possible for me in the future. David Perlmutter’s Orthicon is out now.
