We are awash in images and messages. But how much sinks in? Good writing requires us to pause. Then it deepens us. That’s why I write, as an invitation to think more deeply. What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? When I experience writer’s block, that usually means I’m in my head too much. Writing isn’t just mental. It’s emotional, spiritual, even corporal. It’s in your blood. You’ve got to write with everything you’ve got. When I get stuck, I walk away and go for a run or just “live life.” I know my writing will be waiting for me when I’m ready to reengage. What is your favorite time to write? Early morning, when everything is new again. What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? “Keep your hand moving.” Natalie Goldberg What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? We’re all moving so fast. We miss so much. I like to think my stories give people a way to slow down and see things they might have otherwise missed.
