Member Spotlight: Eldon Taylor

author Eldon Taylor and an image of his book Questioning Spirituality

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? For me, books serve an important role in advancing and clarifying ideas. Writing has always been the best method I have found for consolidating and explicating my thoughts. My hope has always been that this process is not only helpful for me, but for my readers.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Begin writing. Write anything. If I feel blocked about the work I am focused on, then I change subjects and write about something else–sometimes something that’s just silly. That said, when I am working on a book, I find that reading a related article or book, or even a favorite author, tends to encourage me, feed me ideas, and break the block.

What is your favorite time to write? There really isn’t a favorite time for me. I like to write something every day but enjoy writing most when I feel inspired. Still, I find myself typically doing most of my writing after lunch.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? The best advice I would offer is simply to write! Write your article or book or what have you, without taking time to reread or correct yourself. There is plenty of time for editing and rewriting. Put your ideas down first!

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? Sharing my ideas, both in the book and through the media following publication.
