Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? I have carried a story within me for a quarter century, and writing finally allowed me to get it out! With all the other media available, usually limited in time and often in scope, long-form writing is important to get the story in full.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? I had the opposite problem, I wrote 177,000 words for a 90,000 contract! Cutting story away was the hardest part of the process.

What is your favorite time to write? Evenings, with coffee.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Get a mentor to show your work. Don’t get your feelings hurt, but do fight for the story.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? This is one of the most exciting things I have ever done!

McCracken Poston Jr.’s Zenith Man: Death, Love, and Redemption in a Georgia Courtroom is out now with Citadel.
