Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? I feel the most fully expressed when writing. I go to a mental space where I can be free, and it provides the same opportunity to others.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Don’t force it. Accept it. If it comes today, it comes. Put yourself in a place where you’re at your best. But the writing has to happen naturally.

What is your favorite time to write? I don’t hold myself to a time. I write when I’m the most inspired.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? If it’s something you believe in, stick with it. You CAN figure it out. Detach from outcomes and write because it’s an extension of you.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? There’s nothing else that allows me to be still, get away from the busyness of life, but also be heard.

Ryan Lindner’s The Half-Known Life: What Matters Most When You’re Running Out of Time is out now with Koehler Books.
