Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? Writing helps us make sense of the world – and expands and contextualizes the world of any reader. It provides an avenue to sit at length with people, ideas, places, and language.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? I am rarely stuck for ideas, but if I’m blocked on a book, the answer is usually there in what I’ve already written. I reread for theme, symbolism and an eye for simplification – this usually helps pinpoint the issue.

What is your favorite time to write? The quietest times of day: the wee hours of the morning or the sleepy ones before bed. But any spare hour I have is usually a good one!

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Have confidence in your work, and don’t be self-deprecating about it or your capabilities. And get in the habit of finishing things!

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? The ability to reach so many readers through so many different formats – it’s a boon as both a writer and a reader.

Stephanie Campisi’s Warrior Fairies is out now with Schneiderbuch.
