“A citizenry educated in the threats of digital piracy is an essential part of an effective copyright regime,” the Authors Guild told members of Congress in a statement submitted yesterday. “Many users of pirated works don’t recognize piracy when they see it, and still many others fail to understand the impact piracy has on our nation’s creators and culture.”
We wrote to offer our support for an amendment to the Student Success Act proposed by Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), which would ensure that teachers, parents, and other education professionals receive training on the harms caused by copyright piracy, so that they can in turn educate students on these harms.
