Today, the first day of National Library Week, marks one year since the launch of the Unite Against Book Bans campaign, of which the Authors Guild is proud to be a partner. To honor the occasion, we’re calling on authors, readers, advocates, and library lovers to fight back against censorship in a national day of action to defend, protect, and celebrate the right to read freely. It’s called Right to Read Day.
Starting today and throughout this week, please commit to take action to support your library and protect the freedom to read in your community. The Unite Against Book Bans website provides six ways to get started.
We also urge you to check out our Stop Book Bans toolkit for authors, which provides templates and details on how to contact local school boards, write to state lawmakers, or submit letters to local newspapers and radio stations.
Thank you for standing with us against censorship.
