Member Spotlight: Michael Halperin

author Michael Halperin and his book Out of the Storm

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? Discovering the world between the lines. What does it mean to be part of the world mosaic. On the other hand, telling uplifting stories, fiction and non-fiction.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Keep writing. We can always rewrite and we should. The quote Ernest Hemingway, “All first drafts are S–T”

What is your favorite time to write? Early AM. Late PM.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? May be simplistic. One of my mentors, a playwright, novelist, screenplay writer, Broadway producer took me and my sons aside and imparted this advice: “The dictionary and thesaurus are your friends…use them.”

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? Getting published….at any age and any stage of life.

Michael Halperin’s Out of the Storm: Holocaust to Hope is out now with Cherry Orchard Books.
