About the Foundation

quote

The Foundation is indispensable to the wellbeing of the Guild, and the Guild, at least as I view it, is indispensable to the wellbeing of the American literary community.

Scott Turow

Vice President of the Authors Guild Foundation Board of Directors

The Authors Guild Foundation is the charitable arm of the Authors Guild, the nation’s oldest and largest professional organization for published writers. Established in 1972 to expand the Guild’s impact beyond its members, the Foundation directly supports the Guild’s advocacy efforts on behalf of all writers, and offers educational programs for writers and aspiring writers, as well as literary programs that connect readers with diverse and meaningful works.

We believe that protecting writers is essential not only for the literary community but for society as a whole. When writers can create freely and earn fairly, readers gain access to works that spark imagination, deepen empathy, and expand understanding, enriching our culture and strengthening democracy.

Donations to the Foundation directly support this work.
