Member Spotlight: Christopher S. Kayser

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world?
As we become more knowledgeable in specific areas of interest, it is important that we share our interests with others who are equally interested in the same subject matter–such is the process of learning. Through writing, and with the advent of digital books, our thoughts are now more accessible than ever to millions of interested individuals who wish to expand their knowledge in the areas we write about. For fiction lovers, the opportunity to read a well written book is a cherished moment–one that can take our minds off even the most trying moments, and provide an escape to a more enjoyable place.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block?
I try not to force myself when experiencing writer’s block.  Often, simply accepting that “this is not the right time, because whatever I write will probably not be what I keep” works to pacify any frustrations related to writer’s block. Sometimes a simple walk, or diversion to a movie or TV show will clear this issue, and while doing something else, instead of concentrating on the fact that I am unable to write at this particular time, I will suddenly come up with a thought that triggers me back to being able to write again.

What is your favorite time to write?
Whenever the mood hits me! I am not one to schedule time to write, as writing is not my full-time profession. However, with the successes I am enjoying from my two books, I am finding myself dedicating more time to writing, realizing that I have been fortunate to have written two books that people are enjoying, and providing all 5-star reviews to date. Very motivating for sure!

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers?
Write with your heart, and write what you believe. Do not be concerned about critical reviews about your writing. Form is important, and accuracy as well (if applicable), but our opinions and thoughts are our own, and just as legitimate as those who disagree with our works.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age?
Being able to share. My two books are proving very timely–one related to online education, How to Master an Online Degree: A Guide to Success and the other [related] to how social engineering is being used extensively to trick people into being victimized by cyberattacks Cybercrime through Social Engineering: The New Global Crisis.  Knowing (from many comments received and online reviews) that my books are helping people all over the world to be more effective, and safer, is a great reward for a writer.
