Writing is important to me for the obvious reason, as a form of creative expression. Since I’ve been paid both as a screenwriter and as a novelist, financial gain is obviously an incentive as well. In all candor, I think that creative writing is less important as a medium than it was at one time, since we live in an age dominated by sound bites and visual mediums. What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Patience. Ideas, characters, storylines, should never be forced. What is your favorite time to write? Afternoons. What is the best piece of writing advice you ever received and would like to impart to others? Research when necessary but don’t become dependent on it. What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? Probably what has excited writers in any age, the opportunity to reflect my environment and my own experience.
