2024 Singapore Literature Festival: Living Adaptations

The 6th Singapore Literature Festival returns to NYC, spotlighting writing for stage and screen. This year’s Festival is titled “Living Adaptations” and features a multidisciplinary and transnational lineup of artmakers, lots of food, community, and joy.

Programming highlights include:

  • The New York premiere of the Korean-Singaporean film Ajooma, with the director, He Shuming, flying in from Singapore to chat with us;
  • A panel on adapting classics for the stage, specifically featuring non-Western artists adapting Western classics for non-Western audiences, including Rebecca Martínez, who co-directed the bilingual production of The Comedy of Errors for The Public last summer;
  • A conversation on pulling narrative from hundreds of hours of film with documentary filmmakers, including Chai Vasarhelyi, who won an Oscar for Free Solo;
  • And a keynote from artistic director Ong Keng Sen in which he’ll discuss adapting Euripides’ Trojan Women through traditional and contemporary Korean forms, from pansori to K-pop.
