Regional Chapters - The Authors Guild

Please join the Authors Guild’s Washington, D.C., chapter for a “How-To” panel focused on how to present your writing during online pitch events.

We’ll be joined by Ann Rose, an agent with The Tobias Literary Agency, and Despina Karras, founder and host of #PitchDis, an annual online pitch contest for disabled, neurodivergent, and chronically ill authors. Our conversation will be moderated by Washington, D.C., chapter co-ambassador Maria Levato.

This event will take place on Zoom. Please email chapters@authorsguild.org to RSVP.

Speakers

Ann Rose is a literary agent, a wrangler of words, a drinker of too much coffee, and someone who is always looking for the bright side. If the quote “though she be but little, she is fierce!” were a person, it would be Ann. She can be found at The Tobias Literary Agency. Ann is also the author of The Seemingly Impossible Love Life of Amanda Dean, and A Hexcellent Chance to Fall in Love.

Despina Karras is an award-winning contemporary romance writer who brings heart and humor to her stories. A wheelchair user all her life, Despina believes romance is for everyone and focuses on writing #ownvoices stories with disabled characters. She is also a sensitivity reader and consultant for wheelchair use, spinal muscular atrophy, and other muscular dystrophies.

Despina is the founder and host of #PitchDis, an annual online pitch contest for disabled, neurodivergent, and chronically ill authors. While participating in other pitch contests, she noticed that pitches from disabled authors were usually overlooked and didn’t receive many requests, if any. This inspired her to create #PitchDis in late 2020, with the first event taking place in June 2021. The event helped several disabled, neurodivergent, and chronically ill authors sign with their agent or publisher.

Despina is represented by Eva Scalzo at Speilburg Literary Agency.
