Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? Harpo Marx brought a lot of good into the world by lightening it with good chaos and humor. The world needs amusement and laughter and I can supply that with my writing.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? I send some of my characters to a party or gathering. I write about the food and how people are enjoying themselves. Works every time.

What is your favorite time to write? Mid-to-late afternoon. I’m not a morning person and my brain turns into a pumpkin after 8pm. From 2-7 I’m best able to focus and fire up the synapses.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Let your subconscious do some of the writing. You’ll end up with something unique. Your subconscious also figures out connections you may not be aware of.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? The world is open to so many genres, stories and formats now. People love to read.

D. M. S. Fick’s Lewis Sinclair and the Gentlemen Cowboys is out now with CamCat Books.
