Member Spotlight: Dani Alpert

author Dani Alpert and her book Hello? Who Is This? Margaret?

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? Writing is a way to make sense of the world and ourselves. All art is a form of self-expression, an outlet, a way to share experiences, and hopefully makes people feel less alone.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Moving. Doing something other than sitting in front of the computer waiting for inspiration.

What is your favorite time to write? First thing in the morning.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Be prepared for the shitty first draft and have fun with it.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? What’s encouraging are the alternatives. There are many outlets where a writer can submit their work or take more ownership of their work and create a Substack.

Dani Alpert’s Hello? Who Is This? Margaret? is out now with River Grove Books.
