author Joel Harris Cohen and an image of his books Searching for Steve

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? After 2500 years it still remains an effective way to preserve evidence of human existence.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Keep a journal. Treasure epiphany. You’re not crazy, just inspired. Stay healthy and keep a clear head.

What is your favorite time to write? In the morning. Or after a good nap, or dream. Anytime the mind is creating, and words flow.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Don’t be afraid to share your work but prepare for rejection!

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? To relate one’s experience and help educate others. I believe a survivor gene impels us to search out and avoid danger and report back.

Joel Harris Cohen’s Searching for Steve is out now with Loyola College/Apprentice House.
