Writing makes me more empathetic. I need to understand my characters, and why they do the things they do including bad things. Getting inside the brain of someone else makes you realize it’s not all about you. People behave in certain ways because of past experiences and treatment. Building characters, I think, makes writers understand this more intimately. Hopefully, good writing leads to greater reading and a world with expanded compassion for others. What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Eating M&M’s. Definitely not healthy but when I’m blocked, I reward with myself with a few M&M’s after writing a little. It works. What is your favorite time to write? Morning. My brain is rested and ready to go. What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Get feedback. Get feedback. Get feedback. Preferably from an experienced, professional writer. What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? Today’s technology in the writing field is a plus and a minus. However, if you can’t get a foot in the door of traditional publishing you do have a multitude of opportunities to self-publish. Of course, you must be willing to find good editors and proofers to assist you. But with a little research you can create your own publishing brand.
