As a dance teacher pre-covid, I wanted to bring movement to kids stuck at home. Here in Seattle, it doesn’t seem like we get out as much even in 2023, so I think connection and movement are so important for kids at home. I have the added pleasure of partnering with my beautiful daughter. What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? I’m pulling from 25 years of teaching dance, so no shortage of ideas, but finding the time to write between marketing is hard. What is your favorite time to write? Whenever I’m sitting down fresh at the computer. I’ve finally learned I can’t do email first and then expect to do book writing or layout. What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? It’s going to be way harder than you thought, and success is unlikely without marketing. What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? It’s pretty amazing that I’ve been able to learn InDesign, set up a website, and find illustrators all from my desktop. I’ve learned many things outside a dance teacher’s wheelhouse over the last few years thanks to many books and YouTube tutorials. Once Upon a Dance’s Sora Searches for a Song is out today with Creative Movement Stories.
