Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? Writing brings me joy. Stories connect us. In our divided world, that may be more important than ever.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? I go for a run or just live life. When I return, my mind is clear, and I feel rebalanced.

What is your favorite time to write? Early morning, before sunrise, when everything is still and new. I start again with a clean slate.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Hemingway said, “We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master.” Writing isn’t a task to be completed. It’s a journey.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? We’re all moving so fast, and we’re bombarded by fleeting messages and images every day. We do our best to navigate and process it all, but becoming more efficient doesn’t deepen us as human beings. What a privilege to tell stories that invite people to slow down, to think and feel more deeply, to be expanded.

Don Tassone’s Journeys Within is out now with Rochak Publishing.
