NEH Public Scholar Grant, Pinch Literary Awards, and the Kundiman Poetry Prize

This week’s batch includes a new grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities as well as contests for Asian American poets and from the University of Memphis’s Pinch Literary Journal. Deadlines range from March 3-15.

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is currently seeking submissions for their new Public Scholar Grant. The program supports well-researched books in the humanities intended to reach a broad readership. Successful applicants receive a stipend of $4,200 per month or a period of six to twelve months. Recipients may begin their awards as early as October 1, 2015, and no later than September 1, 2016. Applications should include a narrative justification for the project, a bibliography, a resume, a writing sample, a publisher’s letter of interest or commitment, and letters of recommendation. The Pinch Literary Awards in Fiction, Poetry, and Literary Nonfiction are now accepting submissions. The winner of each category will receive $1,000 and publication in the Spring issue of Pinch Literary Journal. Second and third place winners will be given high-priority consideration for publication, but due to space constraints, cannot be guaranteed. Only unpublished work will be considered. Entry fee: $20 for the first entry of 1-3 poems or prose of up to 5,000 words; additional entries $10. Deadline: March 15, 2015. For more information, please visit the website.

The Kundiman Poetry Prize is awarded to an exceptional book of poetry by an Asian American poet. The winner will receive $1,000 and book publication by Alice James Books. Manuscripts must be 50-70 pages in length. Individual poems from the manuscript may have been previously published but the collection as a whole must be unpublished.
