Statements
August 1, 2024
The Authors Guild recently issued a statement condemning any efforts to censor, threaten, or blacklist authors, as well as all forms of bigotry and discrimination intended to chill writers’ freedom of expression. Unfortunately, we have continued to learn of incidents in which authors have been removed from literary groups or events, apparently due to their views relating to Israel or Palestine.
The Guild has expressed our deep concern to the organizers of these events, and we will speak out against other instances of censorship brought to our attention. Any author who believes that they have experienced censorship on the basis of their religious or national identity or their political views should email the Guild at staff@authorsguild.org so that we can investigate and take action as appropriate.
