Writing is expressive of my philosophy, values, and etched belief system. We are able to share our values to influence the world through writing poetry and literature. What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? I listen to music and exercise. Exercise is important as it aids our immune and the adrenaline system. I love different types of music from gospel, to country, and rhythm and blues for spiritual relaxation. What is your favorite time to write? Early mornings are always my best time to write, after a good night’s rest. A quiet environment and a good cup of coffee will create the perfect writing asylum. What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Tell your story. Describe those experiences to an audience and know that others will listen. Write to influence, inspire, and transform someone’s mindset. What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? What excites me most about writing is the freedom to openly express my opinions without any form of restraint against my intellect. Candace Willrich’s Colored Poetry: From a Black Woman is out now.
