Member Spotlight: Cynthia H. Adams

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? Writing has always seemed essential to me, almost a compulsion; there is no choice. My most recent book takes place in several countries and the feedback from the folks I’ve written about seems to have formed bridges.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Get up from the computer. Walk away and perform some mindless task. Give it a little time and the block will open up.

What is your favorite time to write? I take any opportunity when there is no demand being placed on me. Morning and afternoon are the best times. I can work above the noise others may be creating.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Do not be too self-critical. If the story is bubbling up write it down and worry about the editing later.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? The ease of accessing information. Questions can be resolved quickly, facts found, and a rare but necessary book may be purchased quickly and received with minimal delay.
