Member Spotlight: Addie Woolridge

author Addie Woolridge and her book Reel Love

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? The world is evolving in new and different ways, but story remains important. For writers like me, it is part of how we communicate, preserve, and pass down our culture. To me, that is the most important reason to write, to read, and to share. I also write romance. Inherently, those are books that are a solution to someone’s bad day—a moment of rest, a celebration, a bit of peace by the pool, or comfort on a cold night. I love that aspect of what I do most!

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Usually enjoying other forms of art works for me! Going to a museum or a play, or a dance performance always seems to shake the blocks loose.

What is your favorite time to write? I love writing first thing in the morning. There is nothing like the dawn coming up on your draft.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? You learn as much from a piece you don’t enjoy as you do from writing you love. Read with care.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? The world is always changing—it is like flying toward an endless horizon. I get to document and help others make sense of it, even as I turn the changes over in my own mind.

Addie Woolridge’s Reel Love is out now with Delacorte Romance.
