The Authors Guild has partnered with OverDrive, the largest digital distribution service for libraries and schools, to provide the Library Author & Title Map (ATM) free to Authors Guild members. The Library ATM provides live data library on ebook and digital audiobook titles and displays a map depicting the locations of the libraries and the number of units purchased for each title.

This sales data is basic information every author should have—but most don’t. It will help you understand what revenue you have earned (or should be earning) from libraries on a per-title basis and will provide an overview of where in the U.S. you are developing and reaching an audience. With such a premium placed on how readers discover an author or title, the Library ATM is a great source of market intelligence.

Author Guild members can simply log in with their Authors Guild online account credentials and search to discover where their books are available for borrowing in public libraries.

How to Use the Library ATM

Visit libraryatm.overdrive.com and search by title, author, or ISBN. Select the desired title from the search results (ebook and digital audiobook options are presented separately when applicable).

An interactive map will display the locations of the libraries that have purchased the title, indicating the areas of highest representation. You can click each point on the map to view library names, units purchased, and number of branches.

Please note that the Library ATM does not provide information about what price or under which library access model(s) titles have been purchased. You should ask your publisher directly for this information.

OverDrive is working to expand the coverage of the Library ATM in the future to include other sources of digital books, and for print and other formats for each title.

Library ATM FAQs

Q. What is the Library Author & Title Map (ATM)?

A. The Library ATM provides live data on your ebook and audiobook titles that public libraries have purchased for lending through OverDrive, including the number of units purchased and more powerful insights such as top institutions by units purchased and institutional holdings by state.

Q. Why was this developed?

A. This sales data is basic information every author should have—but many unfortunately lack. It helps you understand the total amount of revenue earned from libraries and provides a look into where in the U.S. you are developing and reaching an audience. Knowing where your library ebook readers and audiobook listeners are can provide important market intelligence.

The Library ATM does not include at what price or under which access model(s) titles have been purchased by libraries—you should ask your publisher directly for this information.

Q. Why isn’t my ebook (or digital audiobook) listed?

A. The titles reported in the Library ATM are sourced from U.S. ebook and digital audiobook catalogs from publishers and rights holders that have provided OverDrive with library and school distribution rights for their digital titles. For certain titles licensed to foreign publishers or for other markets, they may not appear in the listings.

Q. How can I get my ebook (or digital audiobook) listed?

A. The Library ATM lists those titles for which publishers and other suppliers have entered into distribution agreement with OverDrive. Talk with your publisher about how OverDrive works with publishers, aggregators, and service providers to distribute ebooks and digital audiobooks worldwide. For more information, please visit company.overdrive.com/publishers.

Q. Will the Library ATM list other formats for my title at libraries?

A. OverDrive is currently working to add data sources to display a library’s holdings for digital books from other vendors, as well as print books and other formats for an author’s work.
