I began telling myself stories in middle school because I had an hour-long bus ride. I describe that bus as a mosh pit on wheels with the only adult literally looking the other way! But stories aren’t just escape. They are a way to travel without having to take the bus. What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Unfortunately, I have the reverse of writer’s block. I rent head space to a troupe of imaginary actors and they work on scenes, try out dialog etc. anytime day or night. What is your favorite time to write? Anytime outside of 3am. Unfortunately, 3am is when most of my ideas come to me. What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Bibi Wein, the author of The Way Home, who is my mentor recommended always having something nourishing to read while I’m in the writing process. Right now, that’s Winnie The Pooh. What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? Just recorded a podcast with Mitch Teich on NCPR’s North Words program. It was so much fun. Like meeting an old friend but for the first time. Renate Wildermuth’s Gone Before You Knew Me is out February 24 with Regal House Publishing.
