Writing was my principal means of expression as a journalist and as an attorney. The difference is that now, I create stories, characters, and dialogue rather than being confined to describing the actions or quoting the words of others. A well-written novel lifts the reader into a new and entertaining, if imaginary, world and provides at least a brief respite from the humdrum of life. What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Taking a day off, or a few days off, especially when combined with an early morning or early evening walk outdoors. What is your favorite time to write? Morning, following two cups of coffee, and occasionally stretching into early afternoon on especially productive days. What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Write what you know. As a former journalist and trial lawyer, I write legal thrillers. What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? The ability to reach a world of readers through a wide range of media. Bob Rothman’s The Shark’s Protégé is out now with Black Rose Writing.
