Mesa Verde Writers Conference and Mesa Verde Literary Festival

Wednesday, September 2-Saturday, September 5, 2026

-

Deer Hill Expeditions (for conference only); Mesa Verde Literary Festival is in downtown Mancos, 7850 Road 41, Mancos, Colorado

We’ve changed our dates and added a day! The Mesa Verde Writers Conference (in its fourth year) has the intimacy of a retreat with the stimulation of a conference. Join four award-winning faculty members for a conference that is one-of-a-kind. At least two of our former attendees have recent published books (poetry and fiction). Located in a bucolic setting nestled in the mountains (yet minutes from town and Mesa Verde National Park), you’ll have the chance to hang out with writers and faculty for 3 days. With workshops and a publishing panel plus catered meals included, you need not wander off the property. We are dedicated to creating an opportunity for writers to connect with writers, aspiring, well-published, or something in-between. This is a generative conference and work that you start may become a finished story, poem, or essay, or novel. Bios and workshop descriptions on our web site. REGISTRATION IS OPEN NOW. The conference can only accommodate 40 writers so register early! Questions? mesaverdewriters@gmail.com

The Mesa Verde Literary Festival is a separate event, in its second year. It will be held on Saturday September 5 and any writer with at least one published book was invited to apply. As of this writing, we already have over 50 applicants from across the country. Fifty is all we can accommodate though some may drop out. If you’d like to apply, you’ll find the application on our web site. The literary festival is free for all attendees. Both events are a part of the Mancos Creative District.
