We’re looking forward to returning to Maine this summer for the Pascal Hall Authors Series, in partnership with the Lesher Family Foundation and Maine Media Workshops + College!
Events are free, but space is limited and registration is required to attend. Each event will begin with cocktails at 5 p.m., followed by the conversation at 5:30 p.m., and a reception and book signing at 6:30 p.m.
Emily Wilson, the acclaimed translator, discusses her versions of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey with scholar Barbara Weiden Boyd.
In addition to Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, Emily Wilson has also published translations of Sophocles, Euripides, and Seneca. She is the author of Mocked with Death: Tragic Overliving from Sophocles to Milton, The Death of Socrates: Hero, Villain, Chatterbox, and The Greatest Empire: A Life of Seneca. She has been named a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, a MacArthur Fellow, and a Guggenheim Fellow.
Barbara Weiden Boyd has published four books on the Latin poet Ovid, as well as numerous articles and essays on Latin literature and its reception. She is currently in her 45th year of teaching at Bowdoin College, where she offers a wide range of courses on ancient Greek and Latin languages and literatures, the city of Rome, and responses to classical culture after antiquity, from Petrarch, Shakespeare, and Byron to Ted Hughes, Margaret Atwood, and Ali Smith.
