Share on Twitter (opens in a new tab) on Facebook (opens in a new tab) on Linkedin (opens in a new tab) via email Human Authored is a project of the Authors Guild that allows authors to show that their books are written by a human and not generated by AI. An author must register their work in the Human Authored portal and agree to the terms of the license agreement in order to use the Human Authored certification mark. The certification mark may only be used in connection with a literary work for which all of the text other than a de minimis amount has been authored by a human being. Sample Human Authored certification marks Below are guidelines for the proper use of the Human Authored certification mark on a registered work. Violation of the usage guidelines is violation of the license agreement. Location: You may use the certification mark: On the front or back cover of the registered work. On the spine of the registered work, provided it is at least 1.5 inches wide. Avoid placing it on the spine if it is narrower than 1.5 inches wide. On the copyright page of the registered work. On the front and back matter of the registered work. In connection with a description of the registered work on any distribution platform. On any author/publisher website in connection with the registered work. On any marketing/promotion materials for the registered work, so long as the certification mark is clearly in connection to the title. Size: Show the certification mark at 1.5 inches in diameter to ensure legibility of the work’s unique registration number. It can be sized at 1.25 inches in diameter if absolutely necessary. Do not size it bigger than 1.5 inches or smaller than 1.25 inches in diameter. Position: Place the certification mark in a location that does not obscure the title or author. On a book cover, it can overlap elements of the cover design provided they remain legible (i.e. if the title text takes up most of the cover, it may be necessary to overlap a section of the lettering, as long as the title remains legible). Color/contrast: Choose a color variation that provides sufficient contrast between the certification mark and the cover design. Options with white and black borders are available. Unacceptable usage: Do not change any colors on the certification mark. Do not apply any filters or effects to the certification mark, including drop shadows or emboss effects. Do not rotate, scale, or distort the certification mark. Do not crop the certification mark. Do not extend the certification mark off the edge of the page.
