Nikki Grimes received the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award which “honors an author or illustrator whose books, published in the United States, have made, over a period of years, a substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children.” Russell Freedman’s We Will Not Be Silent: The White Rose Student Resistance Movement That Defied Adolf Hitler was named a Robert F. Sibert Honor Book. Karen Blumenthal’s Hillary Rodham Clinton: A Woman Living History and Pamela S. Turner’s Samurai Rising: The Epic Life of Minamoto Yoshitsune (illustrated by Gareth Hinds) were finalists for the YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults.
