Rabih Alameddine’s The Angel of History, Dave Eggers’s Heroes of the Frontier, Louise Erdrich’s LaRose, Ann Patchett’s Commonwealth, Dominic Smith’s The Last Painting of Sara de Vos, Elizabeth Strout’s My Name Is Lucy Barton, and Larry Watson’s As Good as Gone were longlisted for Fiction. Patricia Bell-Scott’s The Lady and the Firebrand, David France’s How to Survive a Plague, Robert Kanigel’s Eyes on the Street, and Mary Roach’s Grunt were longlisted for Nonfiction. The finalists will be announced on October 26. The winners will be announced at the RUSA Book and Media Awards Ceremony on January 22, 2017 at the American Library Association’s Midwinter Meeting in Atlanta. Update: On October 26, the shortlists were announced. Patricia Bell-Scott’s The Lady and the Firebrand was named a finalist.
