From an early age, I was struck by the power of journalism to illuminate truth, challenge injustice, and give voice to those who might otherwise go unheard. You’d be correct if you’re thinking that these words sound like something that Lois Lane (the love interest of Superman) might say. This fictional character inspired me because of her fiercely independent nature and relentless pursuit of the truth. For me, writing is more than just a form of expression. It is a tool for change. Written communication is deliberate and structured and its lack of immediacy allows time for research and careful consideration of issues. Written communication can reach out to a vast number of people. The message that can be carried has permanence and can be referenced indefinitely. It helps preserve knowledge across the generations. Men and women speak to each other daily, and yet many times the words they speak are not actually what they are thinking. Through my writing, I aim to bridge the gap between what’s said and what’s truly felt—helping men and women not just talk, but finally understand each other. What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? I make myself sit at my computer for at least an hour each day until inspiration flows. What is your favorite time to write? 10-5 What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Don’t ever give up even if your friends and family think your aspirations are foolish. What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age?
