Member Spotlight: Walter Albritton

author Walter Albritton and his book living a Life Filled with love

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? I have written and self-published more than 30 books, all designed to inspire disciples of Jesus to live an authentic life, fully surrendered to Jesus and committed to living as courageous servants of Jesus Christ. Many of my readers have encouraged me to continue writing. Elton Trueblood once told me, “By writing a book you can be asleep in your bed while witnessing to hundreds of people who are reading your book.” I believe he was right.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? I have seldom had to deal with writer’s block. When I was 85 I wrote “my last book.” As soon as it was published, I began writing my next last book. Seven years later I have written seven “last books.” Now at 92, I am writing my next last book. I continue to feel compelled to write books that will inspire and encourager my readers to live a life filled with love as servants of Jesus.

What is your favorite time to write? Monday and Thursday mornings. For years I have worked diligently to write on those two mornings. I was inspired to set aside specific times by my friend Elton Trueblood who told me he wrote every Thursday. You are kidding yourself if you say, “I am going to write when I can find the time.”

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Write about your real feelings, dreams, personal experiences with God, achievements and disappointments, heartaches and joy. Tell the truth because when you do, people can identify with you as a “fellow struggler” and they may be helped by the ways you have found the strength to move forward in the midst of hardships, failures, and heartaches.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? The possibility that I can write words that will help and inspire someone somewhere to see that there is only one way to live — and that is the Way of Jesus.

Walter Albritton’s Living A Life Filled With Love: Impossible? No! Not if Jesus is Lord of Your Life! is out now.
