Authors Guild Foundation Options Danny and the Dinosaur Film

The Authors Guild Foundation is thrilled to have optioned the media rights to Syd Hoff’s Danny and the Dinosaur series, which will be adapted into a live-action film by Legendary Entertainment and HarperCollins Productions.

Hoff was a longtime member of the Authors Guild. Since his death in 2004 at the age of 91, his literary estate has been managed and shared by the Authors Guild Foundation, the United Negro College Fund, ORT America, and the Anti-Defamation League Foundation.

While Hoff was perhaps best known for Danny, he wrote more than sixty children’s books and series and illustrated many others. He created a cartoon strip featuring a little girl named Tuffy for Hearst Newspapers which ran for ten years and, for five decades, was one of the main cartoonists featured in The New Yorker. Of his first sale of a cartoon, at age 18, he said, “The first time I went up, they bought one and this was the most sensational event of my life.”

“We are honored to steward Syd’s literary estate and delighted that the gentle green dinosaur will enchant many more generations of children through the screen,” said Mary Rasenberger, CEO of the Authors Guild and Authors Guild Foundation.

More than twenty authors have donated their literary works to the Authors Guild Foundation, which administers the properties and retains income generated from licenses, options, and royalties. Click here to learn more about the Foundation’s estate management work.
