Authors Guild President Maya Shanbhag Lang resigned this past Friday, May 3, 2024. Vice President W. Ralph Eubanks will serve as interim president. We are grateful for Maya’s outstanding leadership and welcome Ralph.
In her time as president, Maya oversaw the expansion of Guild membership to nearly 15,000, with more than 2,500 new members joining (and total membership increasing by more than 1,500) during her tenure. She also worked hard to diversify our membership, bringing in many distinguished new members and council members, and to empower working writers from all backgrounds. We wish Maya well in her endeavors as a writer and a literary citizen.
W. Ralph Eubanks is an American author, essayist, journalist, professor, and public speaker. His work focuses on race, identity, and the culture and literature of the American South. He is the faculty fellow and writer-in-residence at the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi and divides his time between Oxford, MS, and Washington, D.C. “I look forward to continuing the work the Guild is doing to advocate for writers,” he said.
